To start a YouTube channel in Pakistan, create it free with a Google account, verify your phone, pick one niche and one language, and upload on a schedule. You get paid after joining the YouTube Partner Program at 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours, through AdSense by wire transfer to a Pakistani bank.

Key takeaways

  • Starting a channel costs nothing. A phone, a Google account and a phone number are enough for the first 20 videos.
  • Until 31 January 2027 you need 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 watch hours in 12 months, or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days. From 1 February 2027, new applicants need 8,000 hours or 20 million Shorts views.
  • Pakistan is not on YouTube's list for the lower 500 subscriber tier, so Pakistani creators need the full 1,000 subscribers to earn.
  • For Pakistan, Google's payment table lists only two ways to be paid: wire transfer and check. The payout threshold is $100.
  • FBR's withholding card (Finance Act 2026) lists a 5% bank deduction on social media platform revenue for people on the Active Taxpayers List and 10% for everyone else.

Most guides on this topic stop at "make a channel and upload good videos". Then you hit the parts that matter in Pakistan: which language to use, why the 500 subscriber tier does not apply to you, how a dollar payment reaches your bank, and why your bank cut 5% before the money landed. This guide covers all of it, in order, in the way you will meet these questions.

I am Ismail (IsmailBlogger). I have been making videos on YouTube since 2018 and blogging since 2010, and I run TubeMind from Islamabad. I am writing this for the friend who messages me "bhai, channel kaise start karun aur paisa kaise aata hai?" If you already know your audience is outside Pakistan and you want the earnings side first, read my breakdown of YouTube RPM in Pakistan after this. Here we focus on the whole path, from zero to your first payment.

What you need before you start a YouTube channel in Pakistan

You need four things: a Google account, a mobile number, a bank account in your own name, and a clear idea of who you are making videos for. Nothing here costs money.

The table below is the setup checklist I give everyone. The first column is the item, the second says why YouTube or Google asks for it, and the third tells you when you need it. You do not need everything on day one.

ItemWhy you need itWhen you need it
Google account (Gmail)Your channel lives inside itDay one
Mobile numberPhone check unlocks longer uploads and custom thumbnailsFirst week
2-Step Verification on the Google accountRequired to join the Partner Program, and it protects you from hacksTurn it on early
A smartphone with a decent cameraFilming and editing on one device is fine at the startDay one
Bank account in your exact legal name, with IBANAdSense pays by wire, and the name must matchBefore your first payout
Your CNIC and a postal address that receives mailIdentity checks and the AdSense PIN letterWhen earnings start

Two rows in that table cause most of the trouble I hear about. The first is the bank name. If your bank has "Muhammad Ali Khan" and your AdSense profile says "Ali Khan", the wire can bounce. Set your AdSense payee name exactly as your bank shows it from the start. The second is the postal address. Google sends a PIN by normal post, and YouTube Help says it can take 3 to 4 weeks. Use an address where letters do not get lost, and write the street, area and city fully.

About age: you need to be old enough to use YouTube in the first place, and AdSense, which handles the money, is for adults of 18 and over. If you are younger, talk to a parent before you plan around earnings, because the payment side will sit in an adult's name.

How to set up the channel, step by step

Setting up takes about 30 minutes. Do it once, carefully, and you will not need to fix it later.

  1. Create a separate Google account for the channel if you plan to treat it as a business. It keeps your personal email apart and makes it easier to add an editor later.
  2. Go to YouTube, click your profile picture, and choose "Create a channel". Pick a name and a handle (the @name).
  3. Pick the name with care. A good name tells a viewer the topic in one look and still works if you grow beyond Pakistan. Our channel name generator gives you name and handle ideas and checks if the handle looks free.
  4. Verify your phone in YouTube Studio. This unlocks intermediate features, such as videos longer than 15 minutes and custom thumbnails.
  5. Turn on 2-Step Verification in your Google account security settings.
  6. Add a profile picture, a banner and a short channel description that says what you post and how often.
  7. Upload your first video. Do not wait for the perfect one.

One more level matters later: advanced features. YouTube Help says you can get them through enough channel history over time, or right away by verifying your identity with a valid ID or a short video. You need advanced features access before you can join the Partner Program, so do not leave it to the last week.

Pick your niche and your language: Urdu, English or both

Choose the language your target viewers watch in, then choose a topic inside it where small channels are still breaking out. Language decides who sees your videos. Who sees them decides how much each view pays.

This is the biggest decision in this guide, so let me explain it slowly. YouTube does not pay you more or less because you live in Pakistan. Advertisers pay based on the viewer. An ad shown to a viewer in the United States usually pays far more than one shown to a viewer in Pakistan, because advertisers in the US spend more to reach each person. So an Urdu video watched mostly in Pakistan earns at Pakistani ad rates, and an English video watched mostly in the US or UK earns at those rates, even if both were made in Lahore.

That does not make Urdu the wrong choice. Urdu has a huge audience, much less competition from Western channels, and you speak it naturally, which shows on camera. The question is what you want from the channel. Here is how I would decide.

If your goal is...PickWhy
Fast growth and a loyal local communityUrdu (or Roman Urdu titles)Big audience, you sound natural, easier to get the first 1,000 subscribers
Higher earnings per view from adsEnglish, aimed at US, UK and Canada viewersAd rates follow the viewer's country
Brand deals from Pakistani companiesUrduLocal brands pay for reach in Pakistan
A faceless channel you can run from homeEnglish for money, Urdu for reachBoth work; English faces stronger competition
You are not sureStart in the language you speak bestA channel you can keep running beats a perfect plan you drop

Read the last row twice. Most new channels do not fail because of the wrong language. They fail because the creator stops after ten videos. If English slows you down so much that you post once a month, start in Urdu and add English later as a second channel.

Can you do both on one channel? You can, but I would not mix them in the same feed at the start. Viewers who subscribe for Urdu videos will skip the English ones, and YouTube reads those skips as "people do not want this". Two channels, one per language, is cleaner. If you want idea lists for each language, I have kept them on a separate page of Urdu and Hindi faceless channel ideas, so I will not repeat them here.

What our data shows about Urdu and English niches

To give you numbers instead of opinions, I pulled TubeMind's niche data on 3 November 2026. At that point our index held 21,466 channels and 1,785,955 videos across 39 niches, all fetched through the official YouTube Data API. The table compares the niches most relevant to a Pakistani starter.

Niche (language, main viewers)Channels trackedEst. RPM after country mixYoung winnersDifficulty (0 to 100)TubeMind verdict
Urdu Facts (Urdu, Pakistan)216$0.551652Enter
Islamic Reminders (English, US, UK, Pakistan)552$0.775657Wait
Cricket Analysis (English, Pakistan, India, UK)410$0.345763Wait
Pakistan News Explained (Urdu and English)189$0.421465Avoid
Geography and Maps (English, US, UK)209$1.612851Enter
Psychology Facts (English, US, UK)357$1.944048Enter
History Documentary (English, US, UK)395$2.502455Enter

Here is what those columns mean in plain words. "Est. RPM" is our estimate of what a creator keeps per 1,000 views after we adjust for the countries the niche's viewers come from. "Young winners" counts small, new channels in that niche that are breaking out recently, which is the best sign a newcomer can get in. "Difficulty" runs from 0 (wide open) to 100 (very hard for a new channel). The verdict combines all of these.

Now an example. Say you make a facts channel and get 100,000 views in a month. In Urdu Facts, at about $0.55 per 1,000 views, that is roughly $55. The same 100,000 views in English Psychology Facts, at about $1.94, would be roughly $194. That is around three and a half times more for the same view count. But look at the other columns too: Urdu Facts still rates Enter, with a moderate difficulty of 52, so it is a fair place to grow. And Pakistan News Explained rates Avoid, because it is hard to rank in and pays little, which is useful to know before you spend six months on it.

One more data point. In the 90 days to 3 November 2026, our index saw 5,021 uploads with "urdu" in the title, from 363 channels. Half of them were Shorts, and the median upload got 1,588 views. In plain words: lots of people post in Urdu, and a typical video gets a modest audience, so a clear topic and a strong title matter more than the language label. These are estimates from our own index, which covers a sample of YouTube, and the method is on how our scores work.

Before you commit to any topic, run it through the niche checker to see its verdict that day. If you want the full method for picking a topic, my guide on how to find a YouTube niche walks through it.

YouTube monetization rules in 2026, and what changes in 2027

To earn from ads you must join the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). Right now that needs 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months, or 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. The rules are the same in Pakistan as in any other country where YPP is open.

The bar is about to rise. YouTube Help's page on Partner Program changes says that from 1 February 2027, new applicants will need the following.

Requirement for new applicantsUntil 31 January 2027From 1 February 2027
Subscribers1,0001,000
Long video path4,000 watch hours in 12 months8,000 watch hours in 365 days
Shorts path10 million Shorts views in 90 days20 million Shorts views in 90 days
Creators already in YPPStatus not affected, but they must accept the updated terms in YouTube Studio by 31 January 2027 to keep earning from the affected features

What does this mean for you if you start this month? Your watch hours do not reset in February. They keep adding up. But if you have not applied by then, you will need double the hours. Say your channel reaches 4,000 hours in April 2027: under the old rule you could apply, under the new rule you are halfway there. So if you are close, focus on longer videos that people finish, because long video watch time is what counts toward the hours. Shorts views in the Shorts feed do not count toward watch hours.

The 500 subscriber tier is the next confusion. YouTube runs a lower tier (500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in 90 days, plus 3,000 watch hours or 3 million Shorts views) that opens fan funding such as memberships and Super Thanks. YouTube Help's page on the expanded Partner Program lists the countries where it is available, and on 3 November 2026 Pakistan was not on that list. Some Pakistani guides say you can start earning at 500 subscribers. From Pakistan, you cannot yet.

Numbers are not the only gate. YouTube's reviewers also check that your channel follows its monetization policies. In July 2025 YouTube renamed its "repetitious content" policy to "inauthentic content", which covers mass-made videos that look like they came from a template. Reused content (clips from other sources with no added value) is also a common reason for rejection. A human reviewer looks at your channel, and YouTube Help says the review usually takes about a month.

If you are rejected the first time, you can appeal within 21 days, or keep uploading original work and reapply after 30 days. After a second rejection the wait is 90 days. For a full list of statuses and fixes, see why a YouTube channel is not monetized. To see how close any channel looks to the bar, try the YouTube monetization checker.

How AdSense pays a YouTube creator in Pakistan

YouTube pays through an AdSense for YouTube account, once a month, by wire transfer (or check) in US dollars, after your balance passes $100. The money arrives at your Pakistani bank, which converts it to rupees.

Here is the path from your first dollar of earnings to cash in your account. I am keeping it short because the exact monthly calendar, PIN dates and error fixes are on our AdSense payout checklist, which walks you through each step in order.

  1. When you apply for YPP, you create or link an AdSense for YouTube account. Only one active account per channel.
  2. When your earnings reach the verification threshold, Google checks your identity and mails a PIN to your address. You enter it in AdSense.
  3. You submit US tax info inside AdSense (more on this in the next section).
  4. You add a payment method. For Pakistan, Google's table shows wire transfer and check. EFT and Hyperwallet are marked not available.
  5. When your balance crosses $100 by the end of a month, it is finalized and paid in the following month.

For the wire, Google asks for the account holder name as your bank has it, the bank name, the SWIFT code (8 or 11 characters) and your IBAN or account number. Your bank must be in the same country as your AdSense payments address. In practice that means a Pakistani address needs a Pakistani bank. Ask your branch for the exact SWIFT code they use for incoming foreign remittances, because a big bank can have more than one.

What about PayPal, Payoneer or Western Union? Google's Pakistan row lists only check and wire. Several local guides still mention Western Union, which may have been true years ago. If someone tells you another route, check the payment methods inside your own AdSense account, because that list is what Google will use.

A simple example of timing. Say your channel is accepted in March and earns $60 in March and $55 in April. March alone is under $100, so it rolls over. By the end of April your balance is $115, so it is finalized in early May and paid in May. Your first payment would arrive a little over two months after you started earning. Plan for that gap.

Tax basics for Pakistani YouTubers, from official sources only

There are two separate tax questions: US tax that Google may hold back, and Pakistani tax that your bank now deducts. I will only tell you what the official pages say. I am not a tax adviser, and your own situation needs one.

US tax info in AdSense

YouTube Help says every monetizing creator must submit US tax info in AdSense, wherever they live. If you submit it, any US withholding applies only to the part of your earnings that came from viewers in the United States, at a rate between 0% and 30% depending on whether your country has a tax treaty with the US. If you do not submit it, Google may withhold up to 24% of your total worldwide earnings for an individual account.

In plain words: submitting the form protects most of your money. Say you earn $200 in a month and $20 of it came from US viewers. With tax info, only that $20 can be taxed by the US. Without it, Google may hold back 24% of the full $200, which is $48. AdSense has a guide that asks you questions and picks the right form. I will not tell you which treaty rate applies to you, because that depends on your answers in the form.

Pakistan: section 154B and the Active Taxpayers List

The Finance Act 2026 added a new withholding rule for content creators. FBR's Withholding Income Tax Rate Card, updated to 30 June 2026, lists section 154B, "revenues received from social media platforms by digital content creators/social media influencers", with these rates:

Your statusRate deducted under section 154B
On FBR's Active Taxpayers List (ATL)5%
Not on the ATL10%

The deduction is made by the bank when the platform money is credited, so you will see it on your statement, not in AdSense. The ATL is FBR's list of people who filed their income tax return. Being on it halves the rate. That alone is a reason to file a return every year once YouTube income starts, even if it is small.

A hypothetical example. Say a $200 AdSense wire reaches your account. If you are on the ATL, the bank deducts 5%, the rupee value of $10. If you are not, it deducts 10%, the rupee value of $20. Over a year of payments, that gap adds up.

Two more points from the same rate card. Section 154A, the reduced rate for IT and IT enabled services exporters registered with the Pakistan Software Export Board, is listed separately. Platform revenue for creators has its own line under 154B. Some older guides tell YouTubers to register with PSEB to pay less. Read the current FBR card before you act on that advice. Second, the rate card itself says the Income Tax Ordinance prevails where the card is wrong, and how this deduction counts in your yearly return (whether you can adjust it or not) is a question for a tax adviser.

If you want to see what reaches your bank after these deductions, the YouTube take-home calculator lets you enter your own rates. It has no default tax rate on purpose.

Your first 90 days: a step by step plan

Here is the plan I would follow if I started a new channel in Pakistan today. It is built to reach a clear "keep going or change" decision in three months.

  1. Week 1: Set up the channel, verify your phone, turn on 2-Step Verification. Choose one language and one niche using the decision table above.
  2. Week 1 to 2: Study five small channels in your niche that grew in the last year. Write down their video length, title style and posting days.
  3. Weeks 2 to 6: Upload 10 videos. Same topic, same language, one schedule you can keep (once or twice a week is fine).
  4. Week 6: Open YouTube Studio analytics. Look at which two videos got the most views per impression and the longest average view time.
  5. Weeks 7 to 12: Make 10 more videos built on those two winners. Same topic, better titles and thumbnails.
  6. Day 90: If views per video are rising, stay. If 20 videos got almost nothing, change the topic inside the same language before you change the language.
  7. Throughout: open a bank account in your exact legal name if you do not have one, and get your postal address right in your Google account.

Why 20 videos and not 5? Because five videos tell you almost nothing. YouTube needs some history to learn who to show your videos to, and you need practice to get better at hooks and editing. Twenty is enough to see a trend without wasting a year.

Common mistakes Pakistani beginners make

  • Uploading reused clips. Cricket highlights, drama clips and TikTok compilations usually fail review under the reused content policy.
  • Wrong name on AdSense. A small spelling difference from your bank account can bounce the first wire.
  • Planning around 500 subscribers. That tier is not available in Pakistan yet.
  • Ignoring the February 2027 change. If you are close to 4,000 hours, push now.
  • Skipping the US tax form, then losing 24% of all earnings.
  • Not filing a Pakistani tax return, then paying 10% at the bank instead of 5%.
  • Buying gear before posting. A phone and a quiet room are enough for 20 videos.
  • Switching language after five videos. Change the topic first.

Limits of this guide

Rules change, and two in this guide change soon: the Partner Program thresholds in February 2027, and possibly the FBR rates in the next budget. I checked every policy fact on 3 November 2026. Please check the linked pages again before you act.

The RPM figures are TubeMind estimates from our own index, which covers a sample of YouTube channels. Your real RPM depends on your viewers' countries, your topic and the season, and you will only know it after a few months in YouTube Studio. The tax section is a summary of official pages, written by a creator. It is not tax advice. For your return, talk to a tax adviser or read FBR's own circulars.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free to start a YouTube channel in Pakistan?

Yes. Creating a channel needs only a Google account and costs nothing. Phone verification is free too. You can film and edit your first 20 videos on a smartphone, and spend on a microphone or light only after you know the channel is worth keeping.

Should a Pakistani beginner make videos in Urdu or English?

Pick the language your target viewers watch in. Urdu is easier to grow in Pakistan and brings local brand deals. English aimed at US and UK viewers pays more per view, because ad rates follow the viewer. If English would slow you down a lot, start in Urdu and add an English channel later.

Can I earn at 500 subscribers from Pakistan?

Not yet. The lower Partner Program tier at 500 subscribers is only open in some countries, and Pakistan was not on YouTube Help's list on 3 November 2026. Pakistani creators need 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 watch hours or 10 million Shorts views to start earning.

What changes for new Pakistani channels in February 2027?

From 1 February 2027, new applicants need 1,000 subscribers plus 8,000 watch hours in 365 days, or 20 million Shorts views in 90 days. That is double the current hours and Shorts views. Channels already in the Partner Program keep their status but must accept the new terms by 31 January 2027.

Which Pakistani bank is best for receiving AdSense payments?

Google does not name banks. Any Pakistani bank that accepts incoming international wires and gives you a SWIFT code and IBAN can work. What matters most is that the account is in your exact legal name, matching your AdSense payee name, and that the bank is in the same country as your AdSense address.

Can I receive YouTube money through Payoneer or JazzCash?

For Pakistan, Google's payment table lists only wire transfer and check. AdSense does not pay to Payoneer or a mobile wallet directly as a listed method. Check the payment options inside your own AdSense account, because that list is what Google will use for your payments address.

How long does it take to get the first payment after monetization?

Usually a little over a month after your balance passes $100. Earnings for one month are finalized early the next month and paid during that month. If you earn less than $100 in a month, it rolls over until you cross the threshold. The PIN letter can add 3 to 4 weeks at the start.

Why did my bank deduct tax from my YouTube payment?

Under section 154B, added by the Finance Act 2026, banks deduct tax when revenue from social media platforms reaches a creator's account. FBR's rate card lists 5% if you are on the Active Taxpayers List and 10% if you are not. Filing your return to get on the list halves the rate.

Do I need to fill a US tax form if I live in Pakistan?

Yes. YouTube says every monetizing creator must submit US tax info in AdSense, wherever they live. With it, only earnings from US viewers can face US withholding. Without it, Google may hold back up to 24% of your total earnings on an individual account.

Can I run a YouTube channel from Pakistan without showing my face?

Yes. Faceless channels can join the Partner Program if the work is original. Reviewers reject channels that reuse clips without adding value or that look mass-made from a template. Add your own script, research, voice or editing so each video clearly has something new.
